The Maritime College of Tianjin University of Technology was established in May 2007, tracing its origins to the Department of Maritime Engineering founded in 1986 at a branch of Tianjin University. It is the only institution in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region dedicated to cultivatingsenior professionalsin maritime transportation at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.Guided by the educational philosophy of“Competence, Dedication, Truth-Seeking, and Innovation”, the college obtained certification for itsQuality Management System for Maritime Education and Trainingfrom the China Maritime Safety Administration in 1999. Furthermore, it gainedfull membershipin the International Association of Maritime Universities in 2004.

The college maintains a high-caliber faculty that combines academic expertise with professional credentials. Its current staff of 44 includes 34 core professional instructors. Among them are 11 doctoral degree holders, 6 Captains (including 4 Senior Captains), and 6 Chief Engineers (including 2 Senior Chief Engineers). Notably, 72% of the professional faculty are“Dual-Qualified”teachers, integrating robust theoretical knowledge with extensive practical experience at sea.The college offers undergraduate programs in Navigation Technology, Marine Engineering, and Marine Electronic & Electrical Engineering. At the postgraduate level, it provides professional master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information. Its mission is to cultivate applied senior professionals and future managers for the maritime and offshore engineering sectors.

The college delivers maritime education and training in full compliance with the International Maritime Organization's STCW Convention and China’s national regulations. It operates a certified Quality Management System and holds 20 training approvals across three key categories: Basic Safety, Competency, and Specialized Training.Since 2020, the college has conducted over 700 training sessions for management, operational, and support-level seafarers,,as well as various specialized certificates and short courses, training more than 25,000 participants. Its consistent top-tier training quality has established the“TUT Maritime Training”as a recognized brand in China.Moving forward, the college will continue to advance high-quality mariner education and training to support China’s strategic goal of becoming a leading maritime power.
